Day 14 - July 15 2005 - Waiting for Harry

I had meetings and projects to work on at work today. It kept me busy all day. The day went by so fast. This of course was a good thing because tonight was to be the start of "Potter Week-end!" I was SO excited to get my hands on that book.

I got back to Auntie Carol's and had dinner with her. We had a great chat. I told her all my reasons for coming to Toronto and why I was so glad that I got to stay here with her. Yeah the two of us had a few tears. Both of us have things that I think we're helping the other deal with just by being there.

I took my time packing because I had to wait for Greg to phone and tell me that his friend Rob arrived at which point they were going to head for Fairview Mall where Shawn would pick us all up. After Greg phoned I headed out to the bus.

I got to Fairview Mall ahead of him and Rob so I wandered into the mall to see what it was like. I swore I remembered that Fairview was the mall that the school took us to for our grade eight excursion. It wasn't familliar looking but then again that was so many years ago how would I really remember.

After grabbing a yogun fruz smoothie I headed back to the area I was supposed to meet everyone. They arrived shortly after I got back and Shawn pulled up right after.

Shawn needed to make a stop for bread and milk so we stopped at a Superstore. Shawn wanted to find Harry Potter candy like bertie botts beans or fizzing whizbees. We looked all over the store and were unsuccessful in locating them. While Shawn was checking himself out he asked Greg and I to go and ask at the customer service desk. I looked at Greg and I told him there was no way I was going to ask the girl behind the counter for fizzing whizbees. He bravely volunteered to do it instead. But he just asked if they had Harry Potter merchandise. They did not so we left unsatisfied.

Upon arriving at the house Ally and Adam were waiting outside for us. When Shawn introduced me Adam came right up to me and put his hand on my chest. That was REALLY uncomfortable. Now I know he's five and he's also high-functioning autistic, however it really bothered me.

When we got inside Adam started running around the house in circles. This is the point when we all learned that he is like this most of the time. I had thought that autistic meant that they were withdrawn. He was not withdrawn in the least. He ran around the room and hit everyone on the bottom.

At 10:30 Ally put him to bed and I thought at this point we would settle in and watch a potter movie or two. We sat talking for maybe about a half hour and then Shawn basically said it was time for bed. Him and Ally were exhausted I'm sure...I was exhausted just watching Adam. So there was no HP for us that night.

They set up two double air mattresses upstairs in Ally's room because it was the biggest. Ally warned Adam that there would be people on the floor of her room in the morning and he should step on them. At hearing this Adam started to laugh. This made us all worry that we'd turn into a trampoline.
